Starting in June, if you go to Las Vegas and want to park at any on the MGM properties, well you will have to pay for parking. Free parking, cheap food, and free drinks were the ways the casinos would lure people to Las Vegas.
The cheap food has pretty much gone away (although you can still get a 99 cent shrimp cocktail at the Golden Gate casino) but the quality of the food has surpassed the need for cheap food. Some of the best meals I’ve had were in Las Vegas.
Free drinks will always be a thing in Las Vegas, a drunk gambler will bet more. I’m guessing on that but I’m sure the casinos have done studies.
Free parking, well not at the MGM resorts, the way I see it if hotel rooms are pretty much the same across the strip then extra 50 dollars that you will have to pay for parking might just make a difference. I wonder if enough people stop visiting the MGM properties if they will stop the parking fees?
I’m starting to plan for the rest of the year. In August I’ll flay back to Virginia and attend classes at Virginia Tech for the Fall semester. In the end of October, I’m flying up to Philadelphia for the SWE National Conference. Then after the Fall semester ends I trying to decide want to do. I thought about just staying in Virginia alone at the apartment and relaxing. I thought about flying back to LA and essentially being alone at the house. Then I thought about going to Vegas for a few days then flying to LA for the New Year and then head back to Virginia. Then I though why not go somewhere else. Maybe somewhere I’ve never been with my wife so there aren’t bad memories. So looking at places that are pretty cheap from Virginia. I decided on Toronto. Round trips look around 350 dollars and I found a hotel for less than 100 dollars a night. And it would be nice to get my passport stamped before I need to get it renewed in 2017.
So that is where I’m thinking about my travel plans for the rest of the year.
I stayed at Treasure Island for two nights and New York New York for three nights. My original plan was to stay for two nights on the strip then head downtown for three nights. But there inst as much to do downtown so I found something cheaper on the strip for the three nights.
It was my first time staying at both of these hotels. I paid for an upgrade to a suite. I did this so if I was losing too much in the casinos I could just relax in the rooms.
- Treasure Island housekeeping.
- White Castle – It was ok, I was hoping the onions wouldn’t be so raw after sitting on the flat top. The chicken rings were good.
- Being alone.
Sorry pics of the Shake Shack food. It was good an I was hungry and ate it too quickly.
My cousin asked me if it was better than In n Out, it isn’t but it is pretty close.
The one is Vegas when I got in line was pretty short there were only two people in line in front of me and I was able to get a table. I got a double Smoke Stack, cheese fries, and a root beer float.
I usually have a rule about not eating at places in Vegas that I can have in LA, but I think I might make an exception for Shake Shack.
Treasure Island was ok. The suite was nice, way too big for just me, I had two bathrooms. One had one a shower and the other had a hot tub. I’m glad I stayed there once.
I’m not sure if the bottle kind of turned me off to the Treasure Island. The casino was ok, but I didn’t play too much. I like that it had a nice Starbucks right outside.
I didn’t like having to having to show my key to get to the elevators all the time.
I found this in my room when I checked into Treasure Island. I mean if you are going to leave me a beer lets make me full and a Guinness or a Young’s Double Chocolate Stout.
I need to get out of LA, well more like I just want to be alone for a few days. Someone is always at the house I flew to Vegas on a cheap South West flight.
I decided to treat myself, I got a petite suite at Treasure Island for two nights. I got a free upgrade to a tower suite. It was way too big for me but I did enjoy it.
After I leave TI I booked a room for three nights at New York New York.
I’ll talk more about TI and New York New York later.
Hopefully this will give me a chance to relax and process things and then when I get back I can finish the things I need to do. I lost a semester of school, so I plan on taking a full load of classes over the summer to make sure that I am ready to get back on track toward graduating.
When my mom died, my wife told me to take my dad to Vegas to get him out of the LA for a few days. So we did.
I was out to eat with my Dad and my brother and he said he was going to take me to Vegas. I like Vegas so I agreed and he decided he wanted to go for the Super Bowl. Ok so we went, I tried not to gamble too much and we had fun. we watched the game at Hooters at the Hooters Casino.
The trip was pretty average, but I was able to get root beer from Ellis Island. If you like root beer you need to check it out.
